Am I a People Person?
So a long story short, I was taking one of the courses at my university, especially majoring in computer science, namely software projects (Proyek Perangkat Lunak). As the name implies, I was given the task of creating a team of five people and making software with predetermined topics in this course. My team got the topic of creating mobile applications that are involved in academia, especially in the field of law. The name of the application is Pantau Peradilanmu. Well, in this article I will share my experience working with my colleagues on this project.
What is a People Person?
An individual who would be considered to be good at working with others, having empathy, with abilities to teach, influence, or persuade, is often called, or would refer to themselves, as “a people person”.
Why this is Important?
A people person is one of the soft skills that I think everyone should have. In the world of work, even in our daily lives, we must at least interact with other people. Our ability to socialize with other people is of course a separate assessment for others who determine whether we are easy people to work with or not.
Am I a People Person?
When I ask myself if I am a people person, I hesitate to answer. Why? because in my opinion, I am an introvert who is difficult to socialize. However, after I learned more, extroverts and introverts are not a barrier for us to become people persons. It is true that extroverts have more skills in interacting with others, but introverts can also interact in different ways, for example by being a good listener.
Honestly, I started to understand how to become a people person after working in groups with my colleagues in working on projects for PPL courses. I learn how to interact better with my colleagues, I build better relationships with my colleagues, I help each other out with my colleagues, and also I can understand other people better so that I know better what to do to my group mates.
Like the picture above, even though my group mates and I can only meet through the virtual world, that doesn’t stop me from trying to be a people person. I began to understand that learning to interact with other people was something I had to master, especially before I entered the world of work. Because I understand that sometimes there are times when I will meet and work with people I don’t like and at the same time I have to understand them and keep interacting well. This is what I am studying further so that after entering the world of work I am ready to become a people person.
